6th June - Tropical Hotdog, Island Bar, Birmingham
We only found out the evening before that this would be Irini's last show with us before she had to get a flight back to Germany so she could do a job and get moneys. It was sad but we tried to play really well to make up for it and stuff. It was harder to play well than it had been at our previous concerts because this was an actual big deal and we had about a zillion new songs that we'd not written very long ago/practiced much/learnt properly (Good Vibrations, Eczema Catastrophe, Totally Ice Cream, Midnite in ...). Anyways, even though we (just Simon really) mucked up 'Midnite in ...', the rest of the set was performed very professional like. We did break a metal fan that was keeping everyone cool which was a bit awful but never mind.
The show was a superhero themed thingy which was really fun but we had already planned beach party fancy dress so we we're very sunny. Sunset Cinema Club were like the best music ever and the Incredible Hulk was the best costume ever. Lots of Jeremy's friends from Brighton came up to see us which was so awesome and cool of them and after the bands had played loads of rock we all danced to the eighties superhero ultra-disco.
We love you so much Irini, come back sooooon!
A half-remembered quote:
"I liked that second song (Elephant), it sounded really C86. And then you mentioned C86!"
